grand move auto problem

can anybody tell me what this part is ??

my son charged up the battery but accidently connected the + and - up the wrong way round and smoke poured out from this part. now the car wont even try to start

can anyone help ?? i.e part name, price to replace, how easy it is to get hold of the part and replace it youself

I would get a Auto Electrician(Mobile)to have a look, it probably has done more damage than just melt a plug.
As a temporary fix, cut the plug out and solder/crimp the wires together.

A little bit more information needed to ascertain just how much damage has been done.
Does the starter motor turn over when you turn the key? ..i.e. does the car try to start or is there simply silence?

If you hear nothing when you turn the key it may be that the starter motor has been burnt out and will need replacing.

Its difficult to say what damage may have occured without doing a few checks with a meter.

I think, as the previous poster said, you may want to seek the advice of an auto electrician.

Thanks for that. There is absolutely nothing when I turn the key. I'll do what you both suggest and call in a mechanic.
