Audio Speaker recommendations for Sporty?

Forum:

Hi all, I just fit a nice head unit in to my 94 Sporty EXI but the speakers have little bass to them. I toyed with the idea of building (yes, building) an easily removable one-connector active subwoofer to go in the back behind the rear seats but then I realised if I ever parked in a carpark and left it in to go shopping it'd be ripe picking for thieves.

Anyone able to recommend any good quality (but not costing an arm and a leg) speakers to replace the 2 front speakers built into the console / dashboard?

If not, anyone know the dimensions of them so I can buy compatible replacements?

speakers

the speakers are 4 inch, they have some nice 4 inch two way speakers in halfords i think they were kenwood cost about 20 quid, i had the same problem its ok putting in your replacement 4 inch speakers but in the real world it wont sound lots better. i wanted nice clear sound with a rich bass line so i bought those kennys for the front and i bought a pair of 6x9's and bought sum boxes for them and put then behind the seats and covered em over with a sheet faded a bit more juice to the back and bobs your uncle. i didnt need an amp to run the 6x9s with only a 125 watt head unit, but remember most 6x9s are passive, mine sounds mint now, hope this helps foxdie.

To be honest there really isn

To be honest there really isnt much point in sticking with the same size speakers.
In my old sporty i had two way Infinity speakers in the doors, used vectra adapters to fit them. Fitted separate tweeters into the dash to replace the originals. Had Pioneer 2 way 6x9s in the back, And had firstly a twin 10inch sub enclosure, and then made a 12 inch enclosure for my Magnat sub.
Had no boot space as sub enclosure filed boot, i used u bolts to bolt the box to the roll cage. And fitted amp inside sub box, along with changer (had panel to allow access, and was a separate box inside the sub enclosure).
So had 300watts x2 in front, 200watts x2 in the rear. With a Magnat 1200watt sub with a Jensen 2000watt amp. No one ever wanted to travel in the back!! lol. When i had my soft top on, the bass was still loud, which really was stupid!!! lol.
And i had a thin tartan rug over the sub box. I disconected the rear door switch and traced the cables, then attatched a separate switch so i could over ride the standard switch. And i never had a sniff. Also my Toad Ai606 alarm, may have had something to do with it lol!!!

Cut a hole into the door card

Cut a hole into the door card, then bought audio leads Vectra OEM adapters. ( Made for a Vauxhall Vectra B, they allow fitment of aftermarket speakers to Vectra doors.)
This brings the magnet away from the window mechanism, and once covered with material look rather good. I also fitted some weather proofing for the speakers, basically a plastic sand bag (empty) i had lying around. That i cut to size and fixed to the back of the door cards, over the magnets.
Then its just a matter of drilling holes, and routing of the cables. And sealing of holes. Also left a loop of cable near the door hinge, to allow flex for consistent door opening/closing.

Not hard mate honest. As long

Not hard mate honest. As long as the door card is removed, makes life easier. Have the door cards with holes in available, not for sale but for measurements etc.

Audio Speaker recommendations for Sporty

HI there,

I bought some 6 x 9 's for the back of my sporty. I removed the plastic compartments located on either side of the back seats and mounted the 6 x 9's on speakers spacers (loads availble on ebay)to
allow for the right depth. The JVC 3 way 6 x9 speakers cost me £25
used of ebay spacers £5.99. Took me just over an hour to fit as you
have to cut into the vinyl cover panels to make holes etc.

Matched with my pioneer cd/ tuner head unit the sounds is very good with great bass.

Hope thats helps.
