Your engine should have a cam belt, this requires replacement every 60,000 miles or 100,000 kilometres.
If you are unsure of its mileage replace it, it is cheaper than a new engine, they also recommend replacement on time intervals of every five years, due to degredation of the belt.
Also remember to replace the idlers, or tensioners.
