WARNING WARNING

Forum:

A NEW VIRUS IS BEGINNING TO CIRCULATE, THIS IS CALLED "LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL" AND COMES VIA E-MAIL AS A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION.

OPENING THIS FILE WILL ACTIVATE THE VIRUS WHICH WILL SCRAMBLE AND THEN DELETE ALL COMPUTER FILES. TO DATE, NO KNOWN ANTI VIRUS WILL DETECT THIS, AND NO FIREWALL WILL STOP THIS.

Keep PC up-to-date!

Messages like the above are generally useless, as many new viruses come out each day.

The best advice is not to open unsolicited email, ensure your virus checker is up-to-date (there is a good free one - search for AVG Free), ensure that the OS is up-to-date (Windows updates, on a Windows pc).

Also try and use a normal user account and NOT an elevated permissions account (such as Administrator) for any surfing / email activities.

Useless

The message is not useless if it stops one computer becoming infected, many new viruses, worms and trojans are introduced everyday. Firewalls, and antivirus software usually picks up most of them, but this one is particularly bad.
My contact who works on these for various Governments and security services, claims it is the worst one he has seen in 40 years of working with computers, the last 20 years within this field. As a worlds leading authority, if he says beware, then beware; they are still working on this virus and still do not know its full potential yet.

Virus

It amazes me what thrill these dickheads get out of sending Viruses but thats man kind I'm sad to say.

Take care and the advice of not opening odd looking emails is good.

On the same subject watch for emails asking for you to update you bank passwords etc. They are very convincing and true to your internet banking sign in. Luckily the one I opened from Lloyds warned of you missing a Aprill 2005 deadline but I'm not so sure all the other scams are so obvious.

I get them for all banks useually via Hotmail which seems to be a favourite.

Takecare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too have recently had emails from Abbey, Tsb/Lloyds,etc asking me to update my online banking details. I phoned Abbey (I think) & was told that "under no circumstances" (quote/unquote) would customers be emailed about updating details on line.

As OMM says "take care!"
