wheels spacers

Forum:

I have a 1988 fourtrak and have fitted a big set of wheels to it. Can someone please tell me if there are wheel spacers avaible for fourtraks and how do i get them as my wheels rub the leaf springs. Also when you do an under axle conversion do you have to changed the propshafts or the ujs. thanks

You can get wheel spacers

You can get wheel spacers (32mm normally I think), but I would not fit them due to the extra load they place on barings and stearing components. Better to fit wider wheels (with off set built in), 8JJ's prehaps. The standard Indipendent teradrop / pepper pot alloys are good too.
As for the spring over conversion, I've not heard of anyone changing props for this reason. There should be enough extra in the splined joint to allow for the slightly longer prop.

Agreement

Agree with Nev.K on this, spacers of this size will put approximately 35% additional load on the front and rear wheel bearings.

how

How where and why does it rub, is it just when you turn full lock, cos if it is alter the steering stops rather than use spacers, the other option is to find an alloy wheel rim that has enough offset for your tyre type, spacers are always a last resort - oh ebay by the way.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

SOA conversion

I just did SOA conversion and the front prop need extending it actually leaves the splines but the rear is fine.

SPACERS

Just a quik coment on spacers if you look at it this way if you get an offset wheel with soy an extra 35mm this puts as much strane on the axle as fitting 35mm spacers some of the comment form people make no sense yes some spacers are weeker especialy those with extended screw on studs always go or captive stud hubcentric ones.

I see what you are saying

I see what you are saying about off set. However this may be due to bad explanation of the point. By going for a wider wheel with offset, you should be moving the outer side wall of the tyre out for better stability and such, without moving the inner wall out as fare as a spacer would. This also stands the tyre squarer on the rim (depending on correct tyre for wheel of course), which makes for a more stable road vehicle. Still moving the tyre away from the chassis enough to alow a decent turning circle hopfully.
Personally I have never had a problem with tyres rubbing the chassis. At least you know you are getting the best turning circle you can. As long as you know it's going to rub, and don't try any hard lock turns at speed (suisid in a 4x4 anyway) where's the harm?

stronger wheel spacers

I have 31/10.50x15 tyres on 8.5" rims and experiance the same tyre scrubbing problem on my fourtrak and not wanting to lose any steering lock have looked for spacers, I have run a set of the captive stud type wheel spacers on my landcruiser on and off road for nearly 8 years now without any problems and so began searchimg for a similar set for the fourtrak but struggled to find any available. Suzuki ones although the same stud pattern are a different thread pitch so won't fit.
In the end after months of searching I have commisioned some to be manufactured. The body of the spacers is being turned from high grade steel rather than alloy for ultimate strength as I also intend to use a set of them on a dedicated off road fourtrak with 33" tyres. Initially 5 sets are being made with 3 of these already sold, there may be more to follow if the demand is there. They will be available in about a week, give me a ring if you want to order a set or mail me at eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%73%61%6c%65%73%40%62%6c%6f%6f%64%72%65%64%6f%66%66%72%6f%61%64%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%73%61%6c%65%73%40%62%6c%6f%6f%64%72%65%64%6f%66%66%72%6f%61%64%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')).
