2.8 td engine

Forum:

Hi I have a rangerover with a 2.8 td engine in it any info on how to date and variants would be helpfull ,also inlet and exhaust valve settings as it came with the rocker shaft removed after a new ???? head fitted.

Cheers Peter

Does it have a big sticker

Does it have a big sticker on the rocker cover saying DL then a number? If so this is the engine model. If not the engine number can be found hiding at the top (front of left hand side) of the block, under the manifolds. This should be all you need if bying from a Daihatsu dealer. They could also tell you which engine it is from this.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Engine number

Hi ,It does not have a big sticker but the engine number is DL 456171 I have spoken to the local dealer and they do not work of engine numbers just chassis / vin numbers any ideas.

Cheers Peter

peter, hello. Question: do

peter, hello. Question: do you live on sheppey? Otherwise I know of another witha similar vehicle.Jochen.

Engine Identification

To find out the information on the engine and the vehicle it came from, do a DVLA enquiry check, this will cross reference the engine number with the chassis number/registeration number of the vehicle it originally came from.

This costs £2.50, or it did the last time i did one, and you have to have a valid reason for wanting the information, which you have. This may be useful for future reference when you may need other parts.

here you go

Valve clearance - hot
Intake - 25mm .010")
Exhaust - 35mm (.014")
injection timing 1 o BTDC
this is the sticker missing on the rocker cover, you should be able to find out what engine it is by looking under the exhaust manifold behind the alternator it should be a blueish colour label which will say DL - ?? then underneath the engine number i think, but its the dl number you need more than anything, hope this helps matey.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

My manual says that the

My manual says that the serial number is found in the 'center of the left side of the cylinder block'. The picture that goes with it shows a 'DL' on the block, but no number. I hope it will say DL52. I thought there were severa DL fiftysomethings. However my manual says :
"Type DL engineis a water cooled, 4 cylinder in-line diesel engine with a total displacement of 2765cc. The DL engine comes in two types: One is the DL 42 (Natural Aspiration engine) type and the other is the DL 52 (turbo charged engine) type. On the DL 52 engine, an air-cooled intercooler has been newly provided so as to increase the engine power. Moreover, for durability and reliability, the terbo charger employs a water-cooler type."

The service manual was printed in 1991. It may be that earlier 2.8's had diffrent DL numbers. As I said, I'm sure there is a DL50 and a DL51. This could be my memory playing tricks. I hope the number is on the block. I also hope this post hasn't made your life more confusing... Sad
