Do the rocky hardtops come off or are they permament i hate the extra little window at the rear that makes the roof look stupid does anyone know what year they started doing that so i can look for one's that dont have it thanks

All Daihatsu models came in as pick ups, this meant they could be configured as pick ups, soft tops, or hard tops. On early models dealers fitted them to customers specifications, these were done at the factory on later models.

Simply unbolt it, lift it off the body slightly, pack with wood and ensure all the body seals are disconnected, then with a friend, lift it off.

Replacement is a direct reversal, but ensure all the seals are removed and they, and the body are cleaned and they are correctly located before mounting the new body.

Yes. All the long wheel bases have the raised roof. And it does just unbolt and come off. The ones with a flat roof, that does not unbolt, are the short wheel bases (though they are only about 8inches shorter). These also come in soft top. If you could find the rear door from one of these, then it would save you modifying the one you have.
