NO MORE DAIHATSU IN UK

Forum:

Anyone know about the company that imports Daihatsus - local garage which has given up the franchise says that cars are not being imported, as this Company has run out of working capital, as a result not only of the credit crunch but the poor exchange rate ,and unless exchange rates improve by March then it can't afford to continue.

I don't know about spares.

Anyone know any more and accurate information?

The only people who import these cars into the country and also serve Subaru and Mitsubishi are IM (International Motors). If this is the case then maybe Subaru and Mitsubishi will be hit by this as well Sad

UPDATE ON DAIHATSU SITUATION

RE DAIHATSU SURVIVAL - UPDATE

Other dealers confirm that the poor Yen exchange rate is making the cars too expensive compared with EU and UK manufactured cars where exchange rate variations are either N/A (UK) or not as dramatic and therefore no one is buying ;therefore they are not ordering any at all and sole franchises cannot therefore survive.

Same applies to other solely Japanese built cars like Subaru although these more premium brands are likely to be able to weather the price hike rather better.

Spares supply is not affected but those may be more expensive if manufactured in Japan.

I can foresee the Dealer network being decimated and only those with 2 or 3 other franchises being able to survive ,putting the Daihatsu section on hold - there is only a very limited window when the marque can be out of the public gaze before Daihatsu will be history - Remember Colt?!!!
