Sirion 1300 Oil filter change?

Forum:

Hello all - first time poster here.
My neighabour has a UK '56 Sirion with the 1.3 engine and as he's 80 something I'm helping him with an Oil/Filter Change.
I'm mechanicly able (in my job and with DIY on bikes and cars) but have no experience at all of Japanese cars so dont know what do expect.
The filter (from a casual glance) appears to be of the cartridge type but Halfrauds have listed a spin-on type filter.
Which is it please?

Also what appears to be the filter bowl, looks like it can be unscrewed (with protrusions to get a grip on it) but there is also a bolt head visable in the center. How should I be attacking this? Undo the bolt as with most cartridge type filters or unscrew the filter bowl itsself like a spin-on?
Thank you in advance for any help

Sirion Oil Filter

Just enter '2007 Sirion Oil Filter' in the 'Site Search' box at the left hand side of the window here. You'll see an exploded view of the filter.

The bottom screw is to allow

The bottom screw is to allow you to pre drain it a bit first although its bound to dribble oil everywhere anyway, they always do Smile The whole canister should just unscrew like any other filter. I prefer the Boa constrictor rubber strap tool for all filter removal. Not a bad gadget to have -http://property.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/property/article385...

Excellent

Excellent thanks very much for the help guys.
The exploded diagram was just the job and the advice was a great help.
I have a Boa, a strap wrench, a chain wrench and a few other ideas so it should come off lol
Just got to source a filter now since Halfrauds are clueless.

Sirion filter

This filter is available at some motor factors, Europarts do it. It is common to all post '05 Sirions and Materias. It is also common to late model Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo which use the small Daihatsu engine.

If you haven't already done so, check my posting from last April when I detailed the problems I had completing the oil change, and please use a decent quality oil, the car deserves it.

Correction

Having had a chance to review my previous posting I was incorrect in stating this filter is common to the Citroen/Peugeot/Toyota clones with the 1.0 litre Daihatsu engine. Whilst Daihatsu fit the paper filter to the Sirion engine, for some reason the other manufacturers use a spin-on canister filter on the same engine. Toyota do however use the paper filter on the Yaris 1.8 litre.
The Daihatsu part number for the filter kit is: 04152-B1010
Europarts do a Japanparts filter number: 50182015J
