YRV TURBO GEARBOX GLITCH

Forum:

My wife got into her YRV turbo the other day started it up and the engine management light lit up, she could not get any gearQuote: the D4 kept flashing, my wife manged to drive it home,it felt as if the car was in first gear only and could not go faster than 20mph would not change gear using full auto or button shift, once home i checked the fluids all fine, i took it out for anouther drive and it's seems to have gone back to normal and the engine managment light has gone out. could this be a sign that the transmission is on it's way out. ??

I do beleive that someone

I do beleive that someone else has posted something similar happening to them in the past (last Year), and it was something to do with this time of year causing it (cold weather)? I.e the winter months and cold getting onto one of the sensors? The fix at the time was to start the car and leave it running for a couple of minutes to allow for the sensor to sort itself out (warm up). Luckily up to now I haven't come across this phenomenon (touch wood). Hopefully soemone who has experienced this will be along to explain and hopefully come back with solution.

thanks for the reply, but

thanks for the reply, but the car was allready warm it had just be driven 15 miles, stopped for 15 minuites and then restarted with the problem, i am waiting to see if it is going to happen again and then get it checked out, i am concerned that it will be something expensive, as usual for daihatsu,i don't really want to get rid of the car but if it's going to cost a fortune to fix then it will have to go.

Gearbox problem

Hi lazytown, Ive had the same problem with my YRV turbo.Being a diahatsu techy checked the battery voltage when cranking,on colder mornings found the battery to be under 9 volts but would start, but the D4 lamp would flash. The voltage for the gearbox ecu was below the initial voltage required.replaced the battery and never had the problem again.Hope this helps Mick 49

I have also had this glitch

I have also had this glitch only when it has been cold and wet and sometimes after I have washed the car. But have now learned that if left running for 30 seconds it would always be fine? I have had the oil changed in the gear box by glouster road gearboxes in bristol they have some american machine that changes 95% of the oil in the gearbox no change to the glitch so its not oil if that's any help.

I also got a scan gauge 2

I also got a scan gauge 2 and no fault code when gear box goes funny? Went funny again this morning but did notice the car didn't sound so good turning over so maybe battery on the way out will look in to the battery problem and get back. Cheers daihatsu-stu

gear box glitch

Also had an issue like this today, the gear selection lights kept flashing, and stuck in first gear. After driving for 30 sec's and then stopping and selecting reverse all ok. I think that something similiar happened last winter too. I agree that this is due to the cold (-2 deg today), either due to a sensor, or a drained battery. Been fine the rest of the day. I ve put the battery on charge just to be sure. The battery on the YRV is tiny, and with lights/wipers and short journeys its not surprising its suffering.

Touch wood, I've not come

Touch wood, I've not come across this problem :-(. But then again I have a good Varta ASIA battery installed on the car. Smile

I've never had the problem

I've never had the problem and also have an Varta Asia series battery, fitted by the dealership when the original GP branded one failed under warranty a few years back. Have the handy green viewer on top so you can tell at an instant when it needs charging or its knackered!!
Think the Asia's are now known as Silver dynamic and have alot more amp hours than most rival makes.

YRV bought with a gearbox changed

Hi everybody, I am in a deal to by my dream car( at last) here in Malta the Yrv is a rare car imported from Japan.
I found a neat YRV but refreshing the history I found that the gearbox and the ECU are already replaced. What things could broke up the gearbox? I saw that the car got 16inch OZ wheels and as knowledge as a mechanical engineer i studied ,bigger wheels could damage automatic gearboxes.(correct me if I am wrong please).

If someone encountered some problems like this please let me know. I don`t wish to buy my dream car into a hell life by repairing it.
Many thanks and please to meet all Smile
