Forum:

Hi all.
Just had the rest of the exhaust made up in stainless from the cat back, the problem is the engine light came on about 1 hour after. Now when they made it they used the old censor but when they took it out it cross threaded so had to be tack welded back in.Has this damaged the censor or is it something else Help .Had a price on a new one and collapsed, over £100,can you get these any cheaper, and if i leave it for now will it cause any damage..
any help would be gratefull never had this sort
of problem before..

Its the usual hard to find

Its the usual hard to find lack of info Daihatsu item.
You can get a 4 wire Universal alot cheaper, just have to make sure the wires are kept the exact length and best soldered rather than crimped together. You will need to heatshrink tube the bare joints to prevent damp etc.
Fuelparts do a direct fit and Universal for 1.3 YRV but not 100% sure if its the same for the Turbo - Part numbers; Plug LB1529 and Uni 86400. They supply most parts shops and wont deal direct.
Seller on ebay at very cheap item No 260435408709

Done a lot of reserch, made a few calls and the 1.3 and turbo use the same sensor, also matched the part numbers from a yaris and look to be the same, 4 wire using the same colours, 2 black 1 blue 1 white so will try this route first, but still think the garage should foot the bill for a new one >Sad watch this space...
see ya next week looking forward to it.

Cross-threading

Mark, I can't imagine how something can cross-thread on removal (as you said in your initial report) without the greatest incompetence. If that's what the technician told you then that implies that they are trying to make it not look like their fault.

It is almost 100% certain that they cross-threaded the sensor on refitting it. Very much their fault. Rather than welding it back in place which is utterly stupid, they should have cleaned the thread up. They should pay for a new one.
