CB radio's

Forum:

For those who've got CB radios fitted...

Just got myself a CB radio, been looking at where abouts to mount it. I've looked at above/below the main radio/cd player but it sticks out 1/2" to 1", extra to the normal radio, I have also considered mounting it on the (inside) roof, by the interior light, but thought this would be too high up to be able to be seen easily. Didnt want to mount it on the passenger side of the dash/center console. For those who've got them I was just wondering where people have got theirs?

I MOUNTED

Mine is sideways infront of clock cos its a mini rig, did have it attached to glovebox.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Assuming you are talking

Assuming you are talking about a fourtrak I have my CB mounted down by the normal radio. My normal radio is in the lower slot with the CB in the upper slot. It is mounted using a blanking plate from Thunderpole (http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/din-mounts.html). This setup is not ideal (but it is quite neat) as you have to push the normal radio a bit further back into the mounting than it is supposed to be so you don't knock in when you change gear. Not a real issue but just means I have had to leave the plastic trim surround off the normal radio. The CB isnt in the way though. You also need to bear in mind that if you mount it here you will probably need and external speaker for it as most CBs come with their built in speaker in the bottom. I have a small external speaker on the dash on the flat area above the heater controls.
I have also had a CB mounted above the windscreen in my old landrover and it is also fine there. Once you have switched it on and selected the channel you want (in my experience you dont change channels often) you dont really need to see it. The only thing you really need easy access to is the mic. I have this on a clip next to the glove box (towards the drivers side).
Hope this helps.

Depends how neet you want it.

Depends how neet you want it. I have mounted them to the transmition tunnel, facing upward on pasenger side. Small unit just slid in under the radio. On a shelf above the windscrean (F50). On a Suzuki I took the botom falf of the stearing columb trim off, and bolted it tight into tat area.
My main comment though is to agree with the bit about an extention speaker. You will almost definatly need one. I always mount them on the right hand side of the instrament housing, as close to you as it'll go. This also has the added advantage of turning the flat bit of dash there into a decent cup holder...

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

oop's, more info for you

Sorry, it is a fourtrak, '94 TDS to be exact. I'd really like it to be as discreet as possible, will have a play around with different positions tomorrow.

Cheers
