Mongol Rally 2010 - Terios Assistance

Forum:

Hi there,

We are a new Team based near Portsmouth UK, that are entering the Mongol Rally 2010. This basically entails driving from Goodwood Racecourse to the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar in July of this year (2010).
We have been restricted to certain vehicles that we can use so we have decided upon the Terios 1.3L 01 plate!
Our next task is to the car ready for some massively varied terrain across 10000 miles. This is where we are hoping you may be able to help?

At current, our Terios is equipped with alloy wheels and no protection plates at all. What we are trying to establish is if there are any steel wheels that fit the Terios and where we can get these from?
We have trawlled the internet searching for such items but to no avail. We are also looking into skid plates and the similar.

If anyone can help us in our quest for finding these and many more items to help ease our journey, it would be very much appreciated. We are also looking into corporate sponsorship and donations and once our website is fully built more info will be available there. (www.metalrallykhar.com)

We hope that someone out there will be able to help us and we would be extremely grateful if you could even just point us in the right direction.

Kind regards

Team Metalrallykhar

Okay folks lets have some comments and support

Hi all.

Forgive me for bouncing this back, to actract support and advice. Though it would be interesting to see if they make it all the way with a Terios. Lets hope they keep us posted on progress.

Steel wheels

Steel wheels were standard fitment on the Terios, the alloys were extras. There should be dozens of steel wheels knocking around from people who have swapped to alloys. Try posting up some wanted adds on Pistonheads, Freeads, Adtrader, Gumtree and the like. Otherwise try some of the longer established dealers such as Westaway Motors to see if they have any stuffed in a shed round the back of the showroom!

Mongol Rally

Hi all.

We are the best Diahatsu 4x4 website, so folks let's give some assistance, either financialy or with advice. Personaly I think they are a group of nutters, for trying this with a Terios, but all credit to them and will try to follow their progress in this venture.

Kind words much appreciated

Hi there Edward (ews),
Thanks very much for showing interest in our pursuit and spreading the word to fellow Daihatsu Drivers, it is very much appreciated. We are very new to the whole rally thing so to have gone from nothing to throwing ourselves in at the deep end is rather nerve racking but exciting all at the same time. As we said before in our original post, you can keep track of our progress prior too and during the rally here: www.metalrallykhar.com
This is our own website that we will be posting blogs, pictures and videos to, so please feel free to have a look through anytime you choose.
Once again, many thanks for your enthusiasm and kind words.

With regards to money

With regards to money sponsorship do you have varying levels/bids for sponsorship for the various different panels on the Terios? As may be interested in sponsoring/advertising this site or one of my other sites/services.

Sponsorship & Donations

Hi there and many thanks for your reply.
In answer to your query we do have some graduated levels of “support packages” (named as such to avoid confusion with donating/sponsoring to our charity). Please have a look on our site under 'Support' [www.metalrallykhar.com]. Our main priority is raising money for charity, and for substantial donations being made to our cause we would be quite happy in discussing some advertising space on our car!! (Providing the advertising doesn’t conflict with the organiser’s ethics or restrictions, T&C’s and areas we have to set aside advertising for them - 3xA4 areas on bonnet, both front doors). Though the exposure doesn’t stop with the car, as we do have the website where your logo and details of your contribution can be displayed, plus any media shots covering; personal photos, movies or official output (made by the organisers). Quite a bit to think about so if you want to talk about it please drop an email to us at; eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%6d%65%74%61%6c%72%61%6c%6c%79%6b%68%61%72%40%68%6f%74%6d%61%69%6c%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%22%3e%6d%65%74%61%6c%72%61%6c%6c%79%6b%68%61%72%40%68%6f%74%6d%61%69%6c%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')) and we can go through it in person. Again many thanks for your interest and possible support.

Parts supply

Hi.
Just a sugestion, try the "Parts Dealers" at the top of the page, companies such as "Miner's Offroad" who supply spares may be able to help.

First Off Road Tests

Hi there all,
Well we took our little Terios off road yesterday for the first time. It was great fun! Managed to find some nice little green lanes not too far from us and gave them a whirl. Massively impressed with how Bertha (our Terios' name) handled and took on the things we threw at her.
What we did notice however is that our engine bay started to collect large chunks of ice and dirt from the puddles we went through. Does anyone happen to know if retro-fit skid plates or sump guards are available for the Terios please? We're thinking that as we are to be driving so far across the world, a little protection may come in very handy.
As always, any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to have a look at our website.

Kindest regards

Terios Off Roading Testing

Well we took our Terios out for some testing at the weekend and it handled well. We made a video of the footage we shot but please bear in mind it is only done on a mobile phone, but please take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl4Q0iB18bc

We're still looking out for steel wheels and at current have had much luck in locating any but hopefully one of the link pages on this site will respond with some good news.

We will keep you update as we progress in our preparations for the Mongol Rally 2010.

Kind regards

Steel Wheels - Difficulties

Hi there,

We have been hunting high and low for some steel wheels for our little Terios and have visited many of the sites you kind people have suggested but to no avail. We are in need of some assistance please people! Do you have any steel wheels for a Terios lying around or that you would swap for our alloys, we have 5 alloys to get rid of and need 7 steel wheels for our trip. Our wheels and our requirements are something like this: 205-70-R15 (PCD: 5x114).
If any kind person can help us get hold of steel wheels or can point us to someone that can, please please do let us know, either via here or our website: www.metalrallykhar.com

Kindest regards as always,

Wulf - Team Metalrallykhar

Steel Wheel - Desperately need HELP!

Hi there one and all,

Thanks for all of your interest recently. Our preparations are well underway at the moment and things are going (touches wood) well! Just recently got our Terios through it's MOT with only a few minor problems.
But at the moment, we are on the hunt for bits that we need for our adventure, namely and most importantly, Steel Wheels to replace our Alloy ones. We have been to all of our local car scrap yards and other similar places and have had no joy at all. Major bummer. We have also tried contacting several of the links you have to see if they can locate them, but alas, this has proven a dead end too.

We have 4 months left but are getting quite desperate now as this seems to be one of the hardest things to find. Does anyone know where we may be able to get some steel wheels (x6) for our little Terios please?
We are willing to swap our alloys (x5) if this helps.

Please let us know if you can help us at all with this mission.

Taking a little ratbag Terios beyond its norm

Hi all.

Seems these folks have a problem with obtaining steel rims for a Terios, even offering alloys in exchange.

Okay, if you cannot help out with the wheel problem, how about visiting their site and having a look, maybe you could offer some support.

www.metalrallykhar.com

Hit their site, mention them in your blog, tell your mates, about these guys taking a Terios ( they may be nutters of course)to the back of beyond. And of course , they need cash, not only to fund the the little rat bag Terios ( may the God of little trucks smile on it) and expenses, but allso for the cause they are supporting

Update of our pursuit

Hi all,

Firstly, massive thanks to Edward for his great message in reply to our previous post. We hope that you all do take a look at our website and see quite what we're pitting ourselves and our little Terios against. It really is going to be an adventure of giant proportions!

We've been continuing or hunt for steel wheels for our Terios but at the moment we only seem to be hitting dead ends and brick walls Sad
We contacted Daihatsu the other day to see if they may know where we can get some and unfortunately they told us there are none in stock anywhere in their UK showrooms and garages. Bummer!

We've been told they can order them in for
