Hi can anyone help - my Copen suddenly lost its power and won't go above 40. My mechanic has never seen a Copen before and is at a loss as to the problem - he has stripped it down and there is some oil around the cam chain.... we can't find a manual anywhere and I am at a loss as to what to do.

Did/has the Engine
Did/has the Engine Management light come on the dashboard? Sounds like the car has gone into limp home mode due to a problem, which the ECU will do if it detects a fault. I take it the mechanic looked for any error codes on a diagnostics machine first? Could be as simple as a sensor that's gone faulty therefore why the fault.

No there were no fault
No there were no fault lights the car starts but has no power, he has stripped it down and testing bit by bit. At first we thought it might be the turbo - but Dhiatsu said notbut to check cam chaim. still at a loss help please
What engine size is it?
What engine size is it? Does it run lumpy or up and down on idle? Does it rev freely?
Sounds fuel system related, no fault codes means mechanical but if it runs ok up to 40mph and wont go above then it could be lack of fuel????

Regards the engine size, It has to be the 660cc engine as a turbo has been me mentioned. I have heard a few occurences of loss of power and pretty much all have been down to the turbo setup leaking or just being completely shot...

You need to get a diagnostic
You need to get a diagnostic check done, it sound like its running on limp mode which simply allows you to get home or to a garage. But its most likely electrical in my experience.

hello maria my wife has the same car and the same problem has occured to her car today, we had to drive it from manchester airport to coventry after returning from a holiday.
the rac came out did diagnosis check that was clear, the engine revved well, the petrol level was 3/4 full the oil was topped up. But there was still no power top speed down hill was around 50 mph.

You wern't the silver Copen driving on the A50 from Knutsford to Holmes Chapel this Morning around 9:20am with the queue of traffic behind you? If so I was wondering why you looked so grim behind the wheel

Power Loss
My sister had the same problem and I stripped the car down and found the turbo seized. Rang around for a turbo and by the sounds its a common fault. £1200 from Diahatsu, £732 delivered from turbo express. Rang everywhere and this was the cheapest one I could find. Its a genuine IHI turbo as fitted and is brand new.
