thinking of swapping an s reg mondeo for a 93 sportrak ELXI.

is it worth it swapping a mondeo for a sportrak ?the sportrak in question has done 92,000 miles,it has a hardtop ,plenty of receipts and history.is there any thing in particular i should look for on the test drive.also what are the sportrak like for motorway work ?and what are they likefor every day use, as we go camping and mountain biking quite alot,any help/advice would be very helpfull,thanks

Having owned driven a mundane Mondeo I´d have to say that the Ford is a much better vehicle for motorway cruising. My 1997 Sportrak XiSE sits at about 3000RPM at only 90Kph (56mph) Having briefly driven at 75mph the engine RPM was approaching warp speed and the handling did not inspire confidence...

As for camping, I take mine regularly into the Icelandic interior, where I drop the back 2 seats as the storage room/boot space is lamentable. Having send that, I´ve had no complaints whatsoever mechanically (read the Sportrak review on http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/carreviews/archivedReview.aspx?range_id=388)

Two of my mates have Toyota RAV4´s, which are great on tarmac, though lacking in the low-ratio which is the trump card for the Sporty...
