I'm also new to Fourtraks. I get 31mpg average from my '94 F78 Independent but that doesn't include towing, and I don't drive it fast. 55mph or so on decent roads. Not too sure about things to check but "What Car" (or was it "Which Car"??) said to check for evidence of offroad damage (as they're such a popular farmer's tool). That was the only potential prob they knew about.
