soon to get a four track and looking forward to it ..

Forum:

Hi all my daughter has eventually plucked up courage to get a FourTrack to tow a horse trailer !!!, it looks as if i am the one who will have to help to Maintain it.

I see there is a Manual available for £15 from the boss man here named LURCH, i guess the manual is more for taking the engine to bits etc. all i need to know for starters, is where to look to check the various oil levels in the various axles and gearboxes etc.

hopefuly i wont have to get my hands dirty by taking the engine to bits. LOL.

she takes delivery this saturday all being well, when it will have a new MOT certificate and a few paint bits touched up, I havent seen it yet, but her boyfriend says it's OK, hhhmmmm.

tell me, do they all go rusty at the bottom corners of the windscreen,

rust

Get ready for it...you get bad ones and you get good ones. common areas of rust, lower sills, rear wheel arch, back door and window coners (basically anywhere where there is a weld line) But not let this put you off, these motors are great ! !I'm assuming that this one you are getting is a 1990ish model?

You are correct in assuming that the manual is an actual service manual and very detailed, but it is good. Many people get by without one.

You say that you want to check the oil levels etc...very good idea, if there is no record of oil being changed in the axles etc, then I would suggest changing it, it makes a hell of a difference to noise and performance.

I'II drop you a private message with some more details.

Hi Tim

The manual Lurch has for sale does indeed cover the engine...however it also covers EVERY other part of the 4track..body,electrics,transmission, brakes, oil levels Smile etc etc...if you intend keeping the vehicle for a while I would strongly recommend you buy one...it could save you a fortune in garage bills...does for me anyhow....its a 'total' service manual..over 1200 pages...I know cos I scanned everyone of em Smile

Be EXTREMELY careful when you go to check the gearbox oil. Make ABSOLUTELY sure you have the CORRECT oil filler plug. If you choose the wrong one, you could end up having to pull the gearbox out to fix it.
