F75 Top Starter Motor Bolt

Forum:

Hi, this is probably a dumb stupid question, whats the best way to get to the top starter motor bolt.....(F75 2.8TD) ....have tried from underneath and there is no room along the gearbox tunnel, the top is just as bad...from what I can figure I need a super dooper long spanner and come in directly from the top (somehow avoiding the brakelines and other easily breakable stuff up there).....theres no magic hidden access panels or something?

Theres 2 ways of attacking it

Theres 2 ways of attacking it. One is a long long extension on a socket ratchet, with a universal joint at the socket end, or two, is a 17mm ring spanner applied from the top, but with the bend in the spanner toward the FRONT of the vehicle, instead of what would normally be, the bend toward the back. In other words, Normally a ring/ open ended spanner has a slight bend at the ring end, and a ring/ ring spanner has a S bend at each end. Normally, the bend of the spanner points away from the thread end of the bolt. In this case, use a ring/open end spanner with the bend pointing toward the thread end. You may have to use a bit of extra leverage to "crack" the bolt. Either use a short piece of close fitting pipe, or another ring spanner, on one "jaw" of the open end of the 17mm spanner to get the leverage.

Me and my mate got it today.....

Used a normal short open ended spanner, and a short bit of wood and a hammer......

Cracked open the solenoid...it full of crud...theres a small hole in the side ....? guessing theres a seal missing or fallen out.....

Thanks for your help......on the hole the F75 is heaps easier to work on than my previous mud toy.....(and less tippy) ....87 Suzuki SK 41,3, found with the 413 you needed long twisty arms and midget hands to get to anything on it.

Also I've found its easy to confuse the auto parts people over here sometimes cos the F75 NZ New was called the Rocky, the 2nd hand Imports from Japan are called Ruggers, Then we have the NZ new Feroza's (you call them sportys?) ... the Jap imported versions are also called Rocky's

Not complaining though....mine has a factory PTO. looks like it had Auto Hubs (4wd Button on the dash...with a 2H-N-4L Lever), got manual hubs on it though....as well as the weird pole thingy in the back)

top bolt on starter motor

Hi, had the same problem on a 1988 swb fourtrak.Used a 17mm combination spanner and reddened the spanner with the oxy / acetelene, and put a bigger bend on the ring end. It ws still very tight!
