The wire that comes to the base of the lamp should be the live. The wite that joins to the colore of the lamp is earth. Put a multi meater on it while someone els opperates the break, if you want to make doubely sure.

tried fitting it to all the wires still no luck

Are you sure it's conected to a good earth, and that the new lamp is any good? Have you connected the lamps wires directly to the battery as a test? Have you tried to get a cuircit tone (multi meter) between your earth and battery negative?

Wires.

The brake light circuit becomes live when the brake pedal is depressed ie.. cable is live from the battery to the pedal, but from there remains 'dead' towards earth until the circuit is complete by depressing the brake pedal. Consequently you need to put your lights in parellel with the existing circuit. If it goes in series you will loose lighting power and bulbs will be dim.
The new light should work if wired positive into the existing lamp circuit, and negative to any earthing position. If you have aready connected one wire to positive, the negative can be connected to any chasis location - the nearer the better.
Lastly ... remember you need to press the brake, ignition 'on', to get the lights to illuminate!
