M reg Fourtrak high beam problem

Forum:

My M reg Fourtrak Timberline has lost both main beams and the blue dashboard mounted high beam warning light, it may be a coincidence but the oil pressure warning light does not come on now either. All happened at the same time. Are they linked with some obscure fuse hidden away somewhere Unknw I've checked the fuses in the main box and they are all fine. Could it be the relay (assuming it uses one) if so where is it likely to be located ?.

Find the correct fuse in the

Find the correct fuse in the fusebox, and change it anyway. Spade fuses can look OK, but be blown.

Can only find one fuse marked

Can only find one fuse marked "headlights" so assume it's for high and low beam, if low beam works fine on both lights isn't that an indication that it may not be the fuse Unknw

Oil light was a simple discon

Oil light was a simple disconnection at the sensor, the clip that fits on there is not particularly robust !.

Still have problems with the main beam, looks like someone has put different relays in the front right hand side under the bonnet and done some rewiring, I hate electrics !!!!!

Can't be the fuses as the low beams are fine, putting it down to switches or the relays now and will do a bit more investigating today.

Do the lights go out when you

Do the lights go out when you select main beam, or do the lights just not respond (stay in diped mode)? If it's the pria, you may need to get into the switching gear behind the stearing wheel with some emery cloth. The contacts tend to get a bit burnt.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

It was indeed the contacts, o

It was indeed the contacts, one of the beryllium copper contact fingers badly bent and not making contact when the switch was operated. Straightened it out and all now working fine. Have an odd problem with the steering shaft which has developed about 8mm of end play ie the wheel on its shaft pulls up about 8mm.
