Sportrack clutch

Forum:

The clutch mechanism on my 1600 elxi has given up. It is not the cable. I am in the process of removing the gearbox and transfer box to have a look. Has anyone got any experience of this operation?

Due to the weight of the boxs

Due to the weight of the boxs, if your working on your drive under a parked on ramps from Halfords stylee, I'd sugest you go for removing the engine personally.
However. If you have accsess to a 4/2 poster then it's quite easy to remove the box from underneath.
1) Unscrew gear and transfure knobs from levers, and place levers in as upright a position as possible.
2) Remove prop shafts.
3) Unhook clutch cable.
4) Unbolt bell housing from engine, and split.
5) Lower car so gearbox sits on some kind of secure suport.
6) Unbolt the gearbox cross-member from the chassis.
7) Lift car up, keeping an eye out for snarl-ups.
I think that's about it.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
