Gearbox vent tube?

Forum:

Morning, 1985 SWB fourtrak F70 2.8, was clearing up a few odd problems yesterday following brake failure, loss of fluid due to badly corroded pipe from load compensator to rear axle flexi, and found the remains of an 8 or 10mm clear plastic tube coming down from the top of the gearbox with a definite fixing at the gearbox end though I could only feel it. Anyway does anyone know where it is meant to go as the rest of it would appear to have been eaten by the front prop shaft, As there was a bit of oil splatter in the immediate area I stuck a fuel clamp on it and secured it to the chassis rail.
Any ideas on this one?
Also am I right in thinking that the body and chassis will separate on these vehicles, even though it would be a lengthy process.
many thanks

There are 2 pipes, one from the transfer case, and the other from the gearbox. They join at a T piece near the gearbox, then run forward and up into the engine bay along the bulkhead. It loops up and over where the clutch cable comes through from the cabin, and back down. There should be a couple of bent metal strips on the bulkhead below the clutch cable housing that hold this pipe in place.

Cheers
David
