carburettor butterfly problem

Forum:

ive got a g reg sportrak 1600, I was having problems with the engine sticking at 2000 rpm when climbing up through the gears, and sometimes when sitting still in neutral. Think I have found the problem... the butterfly on the carb sticks open when you take your foot off the accelerator, and the spring mechanism attached to it seems loose?

I chucked half a bottle of redex down the hole and put the rest in the fuel tank and its not behaving quite as badly as it was, although its still not great.

The problem is worse when acccelerating up the gears and is mostly ok when slowing down or coming down the gears???!!! anyone know why this is?...i dont understand it.. but then im not a mechanic... could it be a blocked breather or something?...or should i just get another carb?...

any ideas gratefullly appreciated Smile

Try a new/shorter/stronger return spring first. It could be as simple as the existing one has been stretched past its use by date.
