MOT failure Help....

Forum:

Hi guys,

im a newby and just wanted a bit of help. My '98 Coure (850cc (unfortunately)) failed its MOT on Monday and as i cant afford to pay £7.00 a day to get into work on the bus and train i really need to get it fixed!
It failed on a few things but i have sorted most of them out, the main thing was that the front brakes were unbalanced.

Any ideas how this can be fixed? The garage were quite unhelpful when i asked so i just took the car home!
I have been told that cleaning them up could help but i think i would prefer to just put new disks and pads on, if this is the case does any one have any cheap places i can pick these up from?

Cheers

Nic

Unbalanced ?

Never to old to play in the mud Smile

Do you mean vibrating, or pulling either L - R from grabbing when you brake, or does the seem a pulsating through the brake pedal as you slow. In most of these cases you may need discs machining, or replace if they are out of tollerance ( Manufactures specifications )by cleaning up may just be a machine of the discs to give the pads a new braking surface.

I personally havent noticed anything wrong with the brakes!! but then again i tend not to use them that often!!:)
Can you recommend any where to get some disks or any where in the leeds area to get them done?

I just hate Garages that cant

I just hate Garages that cant give answers, that usualy means ££££'s for them if given the job.
Are you going to change the discs and pads yourself??
If you feel these are the problem, change them but after i would take the car to a different MOT station.
Ok its going to cost you again but all or most charge you again for a re-test unless a minor problem anyway.
I am sure if the discs are not the problem they will be more sympathetic after seeing you have replaced them and maybe pinpoint the problem for you.
Why not give the lines a bleed while you have the spanners out?
Try these guys out, i always recomend phoning after looking online just to check they are the correct fitment. Prices vary so check them all out.
Have used these and they are great for parts.

Brakes

Hi Dave.
The places you mention seem to think the Turbo has the same size front discs but I thought they were bigger.
Which is correct?
I will need some soon.

Brakes

How you doing mate,
The shops listed above are great for Daihatsu stuff at Trade prices although the range does have its limits.
I have been looking for YRV Turbo brake discs for a while now.
Had all the books out at the local spares shop but no luck to date.
Club member YRV130 has already pointed out that they are bigger in size,246mm diam,17mm thick,42mm high, hub 150mm, compared to 234,16,41,138, Daihatsu part no. is 43512 - 97402 and VERY EXPENSIVE!!!
The good news is the pads although again different to other YRV models, they are miles cheaper like around £15 compared to £50 so its swings and roundabouts.
Get your spares shop to look up Daihatsu Copen pads and Suzuki Ignis if not listed under YRV Turbo.
Dave.
