4 wheel drive

As you can gather Im new to 4 wheel drive vehicals I have been told to drive with it in 4wheel drive once a month but Ive been reading from some of you guys never to use 4 wheel drive on the road does that mean I've got to get my little Barbie truck dirty.
Also does 4 wheel drive work in reverse.
Cheers for help.

Its best to drive it in 4wd once in a while to keep linkages etc free. You can put it in 4wd and drive on tarmac but i advise not to, but its ok if the road is straight and you only go a short distance, even better find a really easy dirt track. Also put it in 4wd lo now and again. If in lo ratio pull away in 2nd gear not first.

4wd workes in reverse.

Do you have manual or automatic front hubs? If you have automatic then when going back to 2wd dont forget to reverse the vehicle a short distance before driving off, i reverse back 2 - 3 car lengths.

any more questions dont be afraid to ask, we all had to learn sometime, and you never stop learning.

Just to add to what's been sa

Just to add to what's been said aleadry: If you have manual free wheeling hubs, you can turn them to 'lock' without putting the car into 4wd. This will alow the road to push the front transmition round, alowing everything to get lubricated, without straining the transmition by using 4wd on tarmack (your still only driving the back wheels like this).

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
