Tyre pressures

Forum:

Hi there, Wanting to get a bit more adventurous off road so i have bought a set of Kuhmo KL71 M/T tyres for my Fourtrak ('95 TDX ind).
They are 235/75/15 what pressures should i run these at for optimum traction off road? I've spoken to Landrover owners who say i should drop them down to 14psi!
Its mainly going to be soft mud/ moorland that i will be traveling on.
Any comments greatfuly received.
Cheers!

Lower Psi is good for more

Lower Psi is good for more traction. Not so much in boggy conditions, where you want to cut down through the top layer to find grip. Also lower preasure gives you slightly less ground clearance. Psi should not be put overly low unless inner tubs are fitted. Too low a pressur can couse problems like the wheel spinning inside the tyre, ripping out valves. Or pulling tyre off rims when powering around corners or crossing side slopes. 14 does sound about right. I have used as low as 8 on a full time off road car, but the tyres where screwed to the rims with self tappers on that.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Good choice??

Thanks very much, Nev. I'll give them a bash at around those pressures and maybe alter them slightly up and dowm a few psi. Got a Pay and Play day coming up, good chance to try out different pressures.

Pretty new to this off roading mallarky.

Does anyone have any experience of these Kuhmo M/Ts? I belive they are pretty new on the market.
All four fitted and ballanced for £299, Have I spent wisely?
4x4 Magazine said they were good but their tests arn't exactly the same as using a tyre day in day out!

Cheers

MUD! Woo Hoo!!
