Sirion 4 Track or Rally 4 owners help please !

As some will know I have just picked up my 04 plate Sirion 4 Track.

It goes great but there is work to do underneath to keep it that way.
So when the weather permits the car will be up on stands and checked throughout.
Is there anything in particular I should be looking for on this model. It looks solid enough but the rear supension is a bit rusty etc, so it will be wire brushed and Waxoyled.
Is there anything else. Smile

Cheers, BobF.

Keeping the underside rust free.

Like you Bob, I've used Waxoyl for years, but I've found on the odd occasion that rust can creep under the Waxoyl in time because it's not thin enough when sprayed, to absolutely soak the surface into every tiny crevasse.

Even before learning about Waxoyl I had come across some stuff called Dinitrol, now Supertrol, which is a good deal 'thinner' than Waxoyl and sprays as a really soaking mist. Everytime I see rust anywhere I give it a spray with Supertrol.

Supertrol lasts very well on its own in out-of-the-way places, but won't last all that long against spraying water unless you repeatedly build up the layer. In such vulnerable places I have sometimes sprayed Supertrol first and let it dry out for a while before applying Waxoyl on top of it.

This worked very well on my wife's Fiat Uno which we've just given away, rust-free after 23 years, whilst Supertrol on its own with repeated sprayings is working well on my 8-year-old YRV. Supertrol in aerosols is expensive but very useful and I use that, but also buy Supertrol by the 5L and use it with a hand sprayer.

As you know you have to be very alert about rust. Whilst I was asleep on watch, the welded joints under the YRV sills, which I mistakenly thought were galvanised and so didn't originally treat, got nobbled. They now get the Supertrol treatment every autumn and the layer is building up and it's holding up perfectly.

Supertrol !!

Never heard of Supertrol.

Will have to go seek it out.

The idea of this product and Waxoyl on top sounds like a plan.

Ah Ha. And under the Sill covers. I believe they come off pretty easily. I will have a look.
As usual , now I have the car I am finding all kinds of bits and pieces to do. But it does run well and a full service history. So here we go.

But weather terrible at the moment - a week off in two weeks time - Here's hoping for a good week.

Thanks for your idea.

Anyone else ??

Supertrol comes from Action Can Ltd, Merseyside. Aerosols should be available from any good car shop and I ordered a 5L can direct from them by phone, 01942 713667, for use in a hand sprayer.

Sorry to suggest that our cars have crevasses under them. I think crevises is the right word!

I didn't know that the Sirion had plastic under-sill covers like the YRV. They come off fairly readily - 5 coach screws underneath and one at the front, with 3 plastic fixings at the rear. Once you have removed these you 'just' pull the sill cover off from the bottom edge. There are five or six plastic clips hidden away. If you are lucky they pull out from the holes in the metal sill. If you are not so lucky they pull out of the plastic cover, remaining in the sill and you'll have to make a special tool to pull them out. You can't put the cover back on unless you get the clips out!

The weather should be good next week, so all the best with this task.

By the way 4-wheel drive will knock big chunks off your performance. 4-wheel drive on the 59bhp Fiat Panda adds 4.2 secs to the 0-60mph time. If you want to recover some of your loss look at

This info is great, thanks for that Tony.

I have good news for me though.

The Alloys that were on my Sirion 13 SL, fit straight onto the 4 Track with nothing to do at all Smile

So roll on enough time. The arrivel of the Supertrol (Which I have ordered today.
And some good weather.

Rust prevention./cure

Hi Guys , sorry to join this thread so late but have not been active lately.

I used Waxoyl for 30 years and swore by it .
Then I discovered DYNAX S-50 by Bilt Hamber Laboratories. This actually outperforms Waxoyl and is superb to apply.

It's best attribute is that it is thin. It does not 'freeze' i.e. solidify when it touches cold metal and can be used in fairly cold conditions where waxoyl cant. It really creeps into all nooks and crannies and is very easy to apply.

I tried the test of coating two steel nails one waxoyl and the other dynax and left them submersed in water for 3 months to find rust spots on waxoyl but nothing on the Dynax.

Dynax comes in 750mm aerosol cans complete with extension tube and two cans £12.95 each did my Sirion wings, cills, doors etc and the underide I had schultz applied at a local garage.

I have no conection with the company but sing their praises purely because I am sold on their product.

To find out more just type Dynax S-50 into google.

Thanks for this info, but I have already received the Dinotrol,
I said Supertrol in one of my other answers - but it is apparently the same.

I have done the sills so far and the trims are off. Not having much luck with the weather, so being held up.
The Dinotrol goes on fine and the 360 degree spray attachment works just fine.
Iv'e found I don't need to be drilling holes everywhere as there are plenty (Not Rust Holes Lol all over the place.
I bought a kit from Rejel. Near enough £70 for 4 cans on Wax treatment for in the Sills etc. And tin of R 800 Rust Converter and 6 tins of Underbody Wheel arch wax.
So a Bit Cheaper than Dynax.
Anyway as I say I am stuck by the weather. I will report on the whole job with Pictures when finished.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Wink

Re Too Late!!

Cheers Bob. yes I gathered from your previous thread you were about to buy the other product but thought it worth mentioning Dynax S-50 as an alternative.

I'm sure your Dinotrol will give you far more protection than the time you are likely to keep the car. All these products are pretty good. I still like Waxoyl but being thick it does need applying in really warm conditions in order for it to creep into spaces.

I have always thought, whichever product you use it is best to clean as thoroughly as poss those areas you can reach and then a good coat will protect for years. Just remember to inspect each spring and touch up where necessary. I also added a S/S exhaust. Another rust beater!!

Stainless Steel Exhaust !! Rust Proofing !!

Stainless Steel Exhaust - Where did you get it from and what did it cost Unknw

Criky - You should have seen me yesterday.
All under wing trims off. Into all box sections and wings all treated with the underbody wax etc. Have run out of Cavity wax, so will need some more.
Still two cans of Sill wax left and still bits to do.
My missis came home and started laughing - Looked in the mirror - Talk about black as the Ace of Spades !! Smile

Anyway - nearly here with it and all brake bits painted gold etc.
Hopefully I will get Alloys on soon - need another coat of gold on Brakes yet. Here we go.
