You Pay your Money - You take your choice.

2003 Sirion Rally 4. And I love it.
Don't like the new shape Sirion much.Sorry.

Don't forget it is a Toyota Engine. (In principle)

It was uprated in England.

If it has a full service History and bills for any work done.

I see no reason why it is not good for at least 500,000
If you look after it and service it correctly.

And don't absolutely kick the S--T out of it.

Toyota engine?

When first infatuated with my YRV in the early '00s I scavenged the internet for every scrap of data on the car.

I'm sure I read a story which said that the K3 engine was designed by Daihatsu with help from Yamaha, an early specialist in VVT. Toyota used the design in the Yaris, having asked for design changes that made it less torquey! I test drove a Yaris and indeed it had less drivability than the YRV.

I liked that story even though it may be a red herring, but a Daihatsu UK engineer told me that all Toyota Group engines made in Japan were made at the Daihatsu factory.

Perhaps a Japanese member could deny or confirm these stories.

I will have to ask IM that question.

Very interesting indeed.

My mate has a Yaris - He'll be will Piss--d when I tell him that one.
He's already fed up he can't keep up with me in his new Yaris and I have a six year old Rally 4. Wink

Torque

Bob, this was all back in the early '00s. The YRV develops max torque at 3200rpm and the then Yaris, above 4000rpm. If I remember rightly the Yaris's bore and stroke were different from the YRV's.

I'm not sure if there's anyone now at IM that might be able to comment on the stories. I wouldn't want to believe them if they denied the stories anyway.....as I enjoy them too much!

Hopefully

All going well, I'm hopefully buying the car tomorrow. Should it have remote central locking? You use a key in the door to get in. Is this normal or is something missing / broken?

Superb Reliability

I previously said that the Daihatsu had the Toyota Yaris Engine.
In actual fact the Toyota Yaris has the Daihatsu Sirion Engine.(But it has been cranked down in the Toyota)
All engines made by Daihatsu/Toyota are renowned for their reliability. Most should see off 250/300,000 miles with no real problems as long as they are serviced well with decent oils etc.And most will do a lot more providing they are not thrashed to death and well rust treated etc.
There were only 120 Rally 4's made.
I understand only approx 80 still exist. The others have been crashed out of existance, so there are some spares about if you look hard enough.;)
I was offered an engine for £350 from one breaker when I was considering putting a Rally 4 engine into a Sirion 4 Track to make up my own Rally 4.But I ended up finding one after a hell of a long hunt.

I'm sure Goosegog will keep us informed of his antics.:)

Cheers, Bob F.
