body Lift

Forum:

im planning on fitting a 37mm ( 1 1/2" ) body lift kit to my sportrak, i know it requires 2 small mods to the transfer lever and radiator cowl, but how hard is this, and how much does a transfer lever and radiator cowl cost.
any help would be much appreciated
cheers

You cannot buy extended

You cannot buy extended items, it is a matter of fabricating them from scratch.

You will also need to modify the brake lines, shock absorbers, wiring loom, and many other things.

that shouldnt be too hard.

that shouldnt be too hard. are you sure you have to modify all of those things, the guys form blood red said you only needed to change the transfer lever and radiator cowl

Lift Off, do we have a problem !!

Hi.

With all respect to Bloodred Offroad, it all depends on whether you will exceed the lenght of the flexible brake lines, ect beyond what is available, on full spring extension/travel, or body lift or suspension mods. Though a simple mod to extened /fit the flexible brake lines. Or if required to extened the neck fuel tank. As you state you would weld an extension onto the shift lever's.

How are you planing to lift the body, spacers inserted into the chassis/body locations ??. Sure others would find info on you progress usefull. Keep us posted

Go'ing up in the world

Hi.

To extend the gear sticks I would suggest, on the original stick you would need to cut the thread with a die further down, run a tap of the same thread down a piece of suitable tube and with a die cut a thread of the same size on a same size piece of round bar for the extension, with a thread to accept the knob. Hope this makes sense. Or you could trust welding an extension on ????

As "assassin" states all these mods will have to be home brewed.

this isnt too bad, i think

this isnt too bad, i think ill trust my welding, its always been strong enough, ill just cut it below the knob and weld a section in between
Cheers for your help

If you lift the body by 1

If you lift the body by 1 1/2" you will limit your travel on the suspension by this amount, this is beacuse the shock absorbers are mounted to the body.

Body Lift

Hi Harry,
Having fitted several of these up to now we have found 1 1/2" body lift is the optimum without having to make any major mods. The lower part of the radiator cowl will need trimming to clear the fan as it will be lifted with the body whilst the fan stays in its original position with the engine. We have found fuel filler pipe and fuel lines along with coolant pipes and breathers will accept this amount of lift without mods but check them carefully as you fit the lift. You will need to unclip the front brake lines from the inner wing whilst fitting the lift so as not to put excessive strain on them but with care these will reclip after fitting as they have a zig zag section between chassis and body which can be elongated to suit the extra lift, the rear line goes from body to chassis at the bottom of the bulkhead in a similar fashion. Transfer lever is just long enough to accept the lift but may need reshaping slightly to clear the transmission tunnel when in 4L if it is the manual version. At the rear axle brake line is chassis mounted so not affected by the lift as are the front and rear shocks. Although 1 1/2" doesn't sound much it makes a significant difference to the amount of room available for tyes and on the Fourtrak 33" tyres are fairly easily accomadated however due to the power and gearing limitations of the Sportrak we don't recommend tyres larger than 31".
Hope this helps.
best regards
Dave.

Up in the World

Hi Dave.

An interesting and informative post, hopefully will be viewed by other Sportrak owners who are considering a similar body lift.
