Land Rover S3 with Daihatsu 2,5l diesel engine

Forum:

Can anyone help? Any ideas where I can get hold of a manual/service guide for this engine (F50/F55). It runs OK but needs a good service! Any info much appreciated.

Servicing for this engine is

Servicing for this engine is pretty basic. However if your problem is that this engine seems to be producing less power than you think it should, there's 2 things you may try.
1) re-time the fuel pump. You can do this by:
get number 1 piston to the top of it's strock.
slacken off the fuel pump colour restraining bolt (alowing the pump to rock back & fourth on its mounting).
crack of number one injector pipe.
use the hand primmer pump on the side of the pump (plastic up & down type ting which has to be unscrewed and extended to allow pumping) to force fuel up the injector lines.
rotat the pump clockwise until fuel comes out the cracked injector line.
back off the rotation untill the flow of fuel to no. 1 injector stops.
tighten every thing back up, and you should be done.

2) put more fuel into the engine, as most F50 engines run a week mix as standard. You can do this by:
look at the back of the pump, near the arm from the ignition actuator (the bit that moves when you start or stop the engine).
there should be a screw, with a retaining nut around it, and a security wire through the nut (if it hasen't been played with befor).
remove the wire.
crack off the nut.
wind the screw in a turn.
keep plying with it untill you just get black smock when the engine is working hardest. (Foot to the floor, up hill).
Your basicly screwing in the excess fuel device that helps with cold starting.
It's worked wonders for a dozen or so cars I know of.
