Rally 4 mods

Forum:

I have just got a sirion rally 4 and to be honest would like a little more grunt. i was wondering what sort of modifications are avaliable possibly a turbo kit???? any help would be greatly appreciated. body styling would be good also.

I had a Rally 2 and also

I had a Rally 2 and also found performance a bit weak, Not quite like the performance figures on paper suggest. And you got to really rev them to get any (but to me it didnt sound or fell like it wanted to be above 6500+rpm!)

Unfortunatly there is nothing available off the shelf to boost power,
Forget turbo'ing the K3-VE2 engine as it runs a very high compression ratio so would need extensive engine mods internally to cope. ( such as custom made pistons to lower compression)

However, A option that is far easier and cheaper, drop in the YRV turbo 130bhp K3-VET lump as its all the same externally and engine mounting dimensions, and they really shift with bags of torque (well, in comparsion to the Rally, 130hp does not sound much but then they don't weigh much!)

The YRV's KE-VET engine also has beefed up stronger internals as you would expect for a turbo engine.

It's just a shame that they never put the K3-VET into a sirion as it would have been a stonking rapid little car. The conversion is really tempting and looks very straight forward.

Tom did recently have a rear accident in his YRV and i believe the whole car is at a breakers yard now.

One problem maybe encountered, is the Sirion gearbox is not built to handle high torque, hence why they used the auto box only for the YRV Turbo (rather than redevelop a stronger manual gearbox).

I suspect the clutch may also need to be custom uprated to handle the 30% extra torque, but that's easy enough.

Treated with care and good shockproof gear oil I think K3-VET mated with the manual box would be OK, worth a try anyway!

I know in Malaysia it is a popular engine to retrofit into some of the small Kei cars.

I agree this engine swap idea

I agree this engine swap idea is probably the only way, sure I have seen the yrv turbo engine in a perodua kelisa on youtube again probably in malaysia... so must be doable..

107 bhp in a car that weighs 900kg gives 118 bhp per ton should be good for late 8's - 9 sec 0-60 and low 8's for the 850kg rally2. I have never driven one though. 107bhp out of a normally aspirated 1.3 is pretty impressive I would say not suprised there are no easy ways to boost the power!

120hp , K3-Ve2 Storia in Japan

Hi guys , I`m farid from malaysia, just join your forum today
nice reading all your information sharing and comments

currently i driving kelisa with k3ve2 installed in my engine bay
the engine was taken from half-cut from Japan.

If i not mistaken K3-ve2 in japan have 120hp, bit high from rally 4, but i not too sure.

Hi, first off welcome. In

Hi, first off welcome.

In Japan the cars will have a higher horse power in their engines due to the fuel octane rating of 100+ RON. Plus the Gentleman agreements they have in place. Therefore the engines will be set to a higher output of power because of this.

Here in the U.K our cars are normally set to run on our standard un-leaded fuel of 95 RON, because of this motor manufacturers have to be cautious and therefore why the lower power outputs to suit the fuel octane, due to things such as knocking in the engine and the ECU adjusting and keeping power down.

I suspect that when the Sirion was brought over into the U.K something must have been done in the factory in Japan first with the ECU to adapt to U.K fuel.

The Rally 2 & 4 were done here (Modified Sirion 2WD and 4WD 1.3 Litre) in the U.K and tuned by a U.K firm called 'Camskill', but have a feeling that the E.C.U wouldn't have been touched to remap for 99 RON fuel (U.K Super Un-leaded) from only Shell Garages, which is the highest and most expensive octane fuel we have. Or even 97 RON Super Un-leaded which most garages also sell, but again this is more expensive than the standard 95-RON unleaded most drivers in the U.K would use.

Other Manufacturers such as Subaru where the ECU can be remapped, we can get an aftermarket upgrade to bring the Horse Power back up to match the JDM version, but these are mapped to accept 97-RON Fuels. For Daihatsu it appears that the ECU cannot be done this way Sad

Four wheel drive

Would it be possible to mate the yrv turbo engine to the four wheel drive system on the rally four tho???? If so I would be happy with that

Yes it's still the same. The

Yes it's still the same.

The K3-VE2 and K3-VET are exact same mounting to gearbox.

I woudl think it would be stronger when used with the 4WD system, would be great.

Like a proper mini Impreza.
