Forum:

Greetings all, purdy good forum you got here..

I've been thinking about one of these 4 x thingies for a while now and
I've finally got some cash together to go a hunting.

I quite fancy a Fourtrak TDX Independent, the one with the big arches &
wheels. Looked at Swb Shoguns/Pajero's and they're Ok but there seems
an awful lot that could go wrong. Plus they're a bit thirsty.

So I hoped that you guys (being the experts) could point a poor
helpless soul in the right basic direction.

What I'm lookin' for is a small-ish 4 x 4 that has enough grunt
to pull a ton of caravan around fairly easily. Has to be a diesel,
doesn't have to be too refined but I want something thats a bit
comfier and easier to drive than a Land Rover !!

Does that sound like a Fourtrak ??. Or am I waaaaay off base ??

Cheerz

Rob

Could try test driving........

A Discovery, Good reliable towing machine, more the competent off-road (poor departure angle worsened by towing ball), Slow if diesel, thirsty if V8.

Fourtrak, The newer models r good but to much plastic expensive body work to get damaged easly. The older models are v v Good, Powerfull enought for the Farmers to drive them instead of Landrovers. Reliabilty, I defy anyone how drives a 4X4 off road to say them never have any problems, like most Jap cars reliablity is never realy a problem.

Shogun, good for towing, but be carefull of grey imports and stay clear of the diesel automatics not good for towing. off road ability is ok but comes into its own of the Austrailian outback dirty roads.

Suzuki, Don't go there...........

Best thing is to test drive as many as you can because once you've bought a car the fun and excitement normally wears off after a couple of weeks.

re: Could try test driving........

Thanx !!. When I get rid of my van and make some space in the
garage I'll be test driving the hell out of everything I can !!

Won't be a Discovery though, they're too big, plus I want the
Jap reliability !!.

Always thought Auto's were good for towing, got a mate who has
an old 2.5 'F' reg Lwb Pajero automatic and he swears by it for
towing !!

Won't be 'Mud Bogging' so plastic bits aren't really a problem.
'Fraid I'm more of a kruizer than anything else as you can see
from these two :-

Your description has answered your question

To me it sounds pretty much like a Fourtrak sounds like the vehicle you want. Jap reliability, Good at Towing, Looks Good (newer wide arches, tinted windows, etc), and Diesel. Only ones I can think of that match that is the newer Fourtraks, and Shoguns. But you already ruled out the Shogun, so not leave you much left to choose from. Smiling
