Sirion Rally 4 serpentine belt adjuster

Forum:

Lots of squealing from under the bonnet when engine running seems to indicate belt slipping. Belt needs replacing think its 4pk1755 has anybody got any helpful tips on replacing the belt and does the 14mm nut in the centre of the adjusting pulley have to be slackened to allow the pulley to move to tension the belt by means of the adjusting screw on the front. Does the new belt have to be tensioned by a special meter or can the belt be tensioned the old fashioned way by depressing the belt by hand and if so how tight (how much movement) would be acceptable. HELP needed please URGENTLY.

If it is the belt slipping,

If it is the belt slipping, you'll be able to feel the slack easily. Yes, you need to slacken the nut on the pulley. Make sure that the spanner is on there properly as it's likely that it'll be VERY tight. Make sure that you don't do it up so tight - I just nipped mine up beyond finger tight and it's never worked loose. You might find that you need to vary how tightly you do up the pulley wheel as it makes the belt move slightly off-centre, mine kept jumping off when I tried to do it up tight!
I've just adjusted mine and it seems fine just doing it by feel.
Can't remember which belt I used, but there are threads on here that should tell you. If not, Bob F is the guru who knows all!
