Chassis tubing

Forum:

Hi folks
New to the fourtrak (98) even though I've always wanted one..
Anyway found a decent very low mileage example.
It was a good price but has one fairly major flaw!
There large diameter tubular section above the rear axle is broken at both ends, in turn splitting a brake pipe.
Does anyone know where I can trace this past, or appropriate size tube?
All help appreciated.

These are the cheap thin

These are the cheap thin walled tube more akin to exhaust pipe, avoid them like the plague as you will be replacing then every 2-3 years. Much better getting a bending firm to bend the correct diameter tube with a 4mm wall thickness for you, at least it will see you out.

Or do what I've done twice.

Or do what I've done twice. Make one up from box section.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

If you have the equipment and a good welder you can make a new one with a tube Bender using the old one as a pattern, otherwise get a competent garage with the ability to do this, Atkinson Automotive or similar

I own a Fourtrak TDX and 2 Sirion 1.3 Auto's Mk 2 and love them as there so reliable and my Fourtrak is M Reg and 20 Years old and still goes great, Soon be a Classic.
