Oil in Intake Manifold

Forum:

Hi All

Anyone out there with a Sirion Rally 2 or 4 that can answer a quick question for me. I took my spark plugs out last night as my engine knock (pinking) had come back and found them totally black. Had a look down the plug holes and the tops of all the pistons were wet and black (the car had been stood at this point for about 2-3hrs). Stripped down the air intake to see if there was any oil on the air filter or in the pipe work and it is all clean. However when I opened the butterfly on the throttle body I could see a good coating of oil in the intake manifold and it is coming in from the PCV system.

How much oil is normal to be in the inlet manifold from the PCV system?

My next step is to do a compression test on the engine but I just wanted some advice on whether this is normal.

Cheers

Andy

Oily plugs

Doesn't sound right to me! My Rally 2 has done about 110,000 miles and the plugs are the perfect colour (light browny grey), as were Bob F's from his Rally 4. Can't really help as to why yours are black though - a rough guess would be valve stem seals or piston rings, but I'm sure someone on here would know better than me!
