Cheap? VARTA?
Nothing wrong with the VARTA battery. Have sworn by them on my YRV Turbo until I uprated the battery tray and changed the connectors from the Jap to European type. You seem to contravene yourself that the VARTA battery is cheap, but you want a new battery that is cheap? Think you've answered your own question. If you want to spend on a different battery then try a bosch.

sorry, just been told by a colleague that they are no good. He suggested in getting a Bosch Car Battery (S4 Battery 156 4 Year Guarantee) from EuroCarparts.
Did that and the car is so far working sweet. I have to admit that the car was standing for a few weeks when I was doing the brakes/caliper and rear shock job so that the battery must have drained then. I have carried out a parasitic draw test and that amperage shows up 0.29 and then settles to below 0.25.
