Sirion engine

Forum:

I own a sirion auto 1300 with 19000 on clock.
I really like the car for several reasons but my main criticism is its stiff suspension when I feel every bump.
Is the engine unique to the sirion or does it share it with other makes/models?
I notice that the engine drones when cruising which I think is unusual?
Any comments from other owners would be welcome.

You have either the K3-VE2 or the K3-VE depending on year

What year is your car?
The engine is a Daihatsu made engine, before Toyota started to get their claws in. The perodua brand also share this engine (K3-VE) I believe. Basically if the car you own is between 1998 and 2005 then it's the 1.3 litre K3-VE2 engine with a whopping 101Bhp. The later mark 2/3 cars (Boxy looking type) made from 2005 to 2010 will have the less powered K3-VE engine with 85Bhp. Both use a cam chain and the patented Daihatsu DVTT (Toyota call this VVT-i). Dynamic Variable Valve Timing, and with 16 valves.
The standard questions to ask is if the engine has been serviced and had an oil change? Plugs been changed? A technical manual can be bought off member Bob Fudge (BobF) for £10. He has issues logging in on here, so can be contacted over on the Daihatsu enthusiasts Facebook page. Good luck.
