2008 Sirion 1.0 engine noise

Forum:

I have just bought a 2008 Sirion for my son as a first car. Had a new clutch fitted and a service but the car has a worrying engine noise that sounds like a "whirr" Seems to tail off with more revs. I am assuming it is something to do with the ancilliary drive belt but is this a know issue in any way to help me out? Any bearings on the belt end known to be problematic?

Daihatsu Water pumps are are a known failure

Water pump would be my first guess, but also you have the alternator as well. Perhaps a bearing issue as you say. Also do you have the right Serpentine belt fitted? Been an issue with owners not having the correct length of belt fitted. Too many different types unfortunately. As the car is a 1.0 litre EJ-VE engine, the car also has a cam belt and not a cam chain like the 1.3 K3 engines so when was this last changed?
