Start up idle speed on Sirion

Forum:

Hello everybody,
l have just got a 2010 sirion 1.3. and wonder if any one could tell me what the idle speed should be when cold, it is about 1800rpm when l start it, and just seems very fast.
The other thing is when l got the car l put in for a service, everything was fine apart from the fact that the oil filter was on so tight he could not get it off, it was that tight he broke his wrench and when he tried to loosen it with a 3 foot wrench he only stopped because he felt he would break the housing. Any ideas how to get this off?
Apart from that l really like it.
Thanks

cartridge filter

All new shape sirions in the uk from 2005 to 2010 use a cartridge filter, with paper element inside, the bolt in the bottom of the housing is to drain the filter housing before removing the housing and filter, i never remove this drain plug, as long as you remove the housing carefully very little runs out of the housing if you keep it up right, easier to change on my 1.5 sx as the filter is at the front of car and is vertical, on my wife's 1 litre the filter is at a slight angle, best to wear rubber gloves and a standard washing up bowl just slides under, critical thing is when removing the cartridge filter is to use the correct socket that fits onto the housing they can be bought on ebay etc for approx £15 this socket is also used by toyota and lexus etc, do not use plumbers grips, mole grips etc as you will round off the housing if tight and it is a bodge, the special socket fits over the two tabs on the housing as well as the hexagen, a 3/8 socket wrench fits the socket, daihatsu recommend to tighten to 25 nm, which is just nipped up, easy job if you have the right tools etc

cartridge filter

Finally managed to get filter off, well not me personally. I got the special cartridge from Ebay, then since l have no strength at all (arthritis, don't you just love it), a work colleague (car mechanic) managed to remove it, the special cartridge did break slightly (but still usable). The oil filter was put back on at the correct tightness, so next time will be easy to get off.
So thanks to everyone's helpful advice.
