Sirion 1.3 SE mk 11 Oil Filter

Forum:

Warning to all Mk 11 Sirion owners.
Oil Filter Element
The new type of Oil paper filter now fitted is inside a housing which is usually screwed on very tight and the Alloy filter sockets will shatter when trying to unscrew the housing if tight.
Only way to remove when tight is to hit filter housing round with a hammer and drift or get a socket made from Stock Machined Steel made by machine shop which is much stronger and will unscrew housing o.k
This is what I did and I have had no trouble since, not cheap to make but works well and cheaper than paying garage rates for two cars.

Like all newish cars they can be a pain to service yourself due to being so complicated, cramped engine bay and special tools needed.
These new paper oil filters are fitted on many newer cars now and are the same as fitted to some Toyoto Models, not to be confused with the normal canister oil filter as fitted to MK 1 Sirions OLD BODY SHAPE

Filter housing only needs

Filter housing only needs tightening to 26 nm, not much more than hand tight , just nipping up, housing always feels tight when unsrewing due to the rubber o ring binding as it loosens.

Oil filter

I have spoken to a few garages and they all say these housings are always tight and they have to slacken them with a hammer and drift, Common problem they all say.

I own a Fourtrak TDX and 2 Sirion 1.3 Auto's Mk 2 and love them as there so reliable and my Fourtrak is M Reg and 20 Years old and still goes great, Soon be a Classic.

Cropmaster, as you say the

Cropmaster, as you say the fourtrak has Legendary reliability, never owned one but they hold their prices very well because people know how good they are, Love Daihatsu's a little bit different and superb reliability across the range, we currently have four in our family 3 x sirions mk2 and a 2008 terios, not had any problems with any, biggest thing to check on the mk2 manual sirion is to make sure the clutch is adjusted with clearance, used to have our sirions serviced at the main agents and they never adjusted the clutch clearance, one reason why some owners eventually need new clutches, now do all my own servicing so i know it's done right.

Daihatsu

Yes great vehicles, Will last forever almost if serviced well, I have owned Diahatsu's for many years and would not buy anything else, forget your Landrovers as these vehicles are very underrated, I think until you own a Daihatsu you don't realise how good a vehicle they are, I have friends in the motor trade that pass good knowledge onto me and often help with problems
Our two Sirions don't give us a days trouble, Never need parts apart from service items such as oil, filters, plugs, air filter, brake pads and the odd Eghaust system.
