Potential purchase

Forum:

Hello everyone,

First time user here and I'm looking to buy my first Daihatsu.
I've come across a 2003 Sirion Rally 2 for sale near me for £600. It's 2 owners with 85000 miles (which checks out according to the MOT). It appears to only have about half of it's service history.

It had 3 advisaries on the last MOT: slight corrosion on rear number plate, fuel filler neck is loose and the engine warning light was on.

So I'm wondering are the engine warning light and fuel filler neck issues likely to be major problems? What should I be on the lookout for when I look at the car? And does the price sound right?

Any advice from Daihatsu fans is welcome, as I've always previously had VWs.

Also check the front and rear of the sills as these rust....

If it's anything like the YRV, for which I believe the Sirion and YRV share the same underpinnings. Then just check the sills as these corrode. Just try tapping with your fingers and you'll soon see if they are going. As Bob has mentioned the Check engine light is probably the O2/Lambdas failing/failed. Has been noted on various Daihatsu models that these will fail around 40K miles or above. Be careful with the one on the exhaust pipe as these will probably be corroded on, and may mean an exhaust off and put on the bench to take off and replace. Always worth getting an ODB-II monitor to check for ECU engine codes.
But Bob is your man on these, as he has had 2 of them and should know the in and outs of them. Bob also has the manuals (worth buying a copy from him), as if you need to know how your car is supposed to work, then a must.

Thanks guys!

Thank you both for the replies, I'll bear the advice in mind when I go to see it later. Smile

And Bob, there's a very good chance I'll be interested in that Sirion if this ones no good, it sounds like a good buy to me. I'll be in touch!
