Sirion eating petrol!

Forum:

Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advice. This is my first car so please forgive me if I sound like a newb! I bought my '07 Sirion last Tuesday its 1.3, automatic and had done 37,000 miles. My husband filled it up for me the day we bought it as the petrol line was flashing, he put in as much as he could (35 litres), and today after only 190 miles, its started flashing again. This seems very quick to me! I live in a very flat area, so no hills and mainly do 5 - 20 minute journeys, I did use the air con a bit (I don't know if that makes a difference)

I guess I would just like to know if that is normal? If not - what do I do, and is there anyway I could make it last a little longer?

Thanks!

I Run a 1500cc 2008 Sirion sx Auto, which has a fuel computer on board not sure how accurate it is, around town i average around 39 mpg, your car is a 2007 so will not have the fuel computer as it is pre face lift, worth checking when the car was last serviced, eg, air filter. spark plugs etc , if it has not been serviced for a while, change the air filter , engine oil and filter, and spark plugs.

Fuel consumption

I agree with Bob. It'll only cost about £110 for 2 new O2 sensors, and I just changed mine and immediately got another 8mpg. Maybe the later Sirion engine isn't as fussy as the earlier ones and your engine management light might not have come on yet, but I think it would be a good place to start. At least it would be one less thing to worry about for the next 30 or 40,000 miles.

Weary

1500 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spoke with my brother last night who runs a 1300 2006 auto, he gets 42 mpg around town, brim to brim, so your power to weight ratio is flawed !!!!!!!!!,

Don't waste your money on 02

Don't waste your money on 02 sensors at this stage, buy an OBD 2 reader for approx £12 off ebay and see if any fault codes show up, a car with 37000 miles should not need 02 sensors replacing, the usual syndrome here throw new parts at a car before diagnosing the issue, could be something as simple as just changing a dirty air filter.
