Hi all, I'm trying to diagnose a noise coming from the engine of my Sirion 1.0 3-cyl 2009... Whilst it's hard to describe here are some of the characteristics:
- high-frequency ticking / rattling noise from the front left side (mine's a LHD) - a cross between pinking and fan belt squeal but not either as far i can tell
- most prevalent on acceleration and more noticeable in gears 1-2 and 3
- only makes noise when car is in gear, no trace when revving in neutral
- tends to disappear if the revs are held constant after accelerating (almost like how a fan belt squeak goes off)
- noise can be imitated by holding clutch at break-point with handbrake on and varies according to where the clutch is
- this only happened once but the last time I went on the motorway (which I rarely do) the car really struggled up a long drag and wouldn't accelerate once it got over the top or for the next few kilometres, in fact I had the impression the harder I pushed the more it slowed down - felt like it was choking! On normal roads (upto 110kmh) it's fine...
