Fourtrak's...

Forum:

I'm ready to take the plunge... almost.

Been looking for a car to chuck the dog in at the weekend. Also wouldn't mind trying a bit of offroading! Came across fourtrak's, they seemed to fit my price range etc.

Found one that seemed reasonably priced, dealer said he'd sell it me for a grand, just to get shut. Which is £800 of the asking price!
It's done 160K miles, no service history but has been owned by an old couple for the last 10-13 years. Looks in really good shape for a 1996 car. A bit of rust on the inside wheel arch seems to be the only flaw. Most recent MOT has one minor which was some minor corrosion as well.

Does this seem like a good deal? Would any of you go for it given your experiences with fourtrak's? Will it leave me broken down anywhere?

It's a 2.8 TDK Independant if that helps...

Is the 'bit of rust' on the wheelarch showing from behind a plastic wheelarch extension? If so it's probably rotten under the plastic. Check all around the rear wheelarches under the rear carpet, and in the footwells. The other place to look for trouble is the tubular chassis cross member which the top linkage fronm the rear axle joins too. If these are sound, you can pretty much guarantee the rest will be. The milage is about average.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
