why do i get a racheting clunking noise from the front end when on full lock in 4x4? its a 89 rocky f70

have changed the buggered cv joints but clunking noise still there? what is it? could it be the hubs? or maybe the diff?

Put a bit of grease on the steering stops on the back of the swivel housings.

nah defo not the brakes, as its defo not that sort of noise and i have stripped and replaced cv joints, brakes looked ok!

with regards the steering stops, i cant see how these could make that sort of noise, after all they are just stops! it also ONLY makes the noise in 4x4. it dont make the noise with the hubs locked and not the transfer box. as soon as you put it in 4x4 and turn full lock it clunks!
is that the transmisson? or the diff locking on full lock?

RATCHETING CLUNKING NOISE

Neat words. Our 1994 Applause makes a momentary noise and feels like brake judder when braking in reverse on full lock. Haven't tested it to figure why, but it sure wakes us up!
