Gearbox removal: Mira

Forum:

hi, I'm new here, I'm removing the gearbox on my 1994 L200 Mira, new clutch due and possibly new flywheel (if a light copy is viable).

I've just removed left CV from the box, after I do right CV, it will be held by the mount only.

My question is what way should the gearbox be removed? The engine mounts are front and rear, but I wanted to undo the gearbox mount (left fender) and drop it down, but I'm not sure if this is possible with the engine mount orientation.

Thanks for any help.

I'm doing this and trying to find someone to sell me Japanese catalogue Yokohama 165/65/12 sport tyres before Christmas.

After Christmas I hope to have completed the fitment of the electronic goodies, and then install the turbo Jan/Feb.

I've got a new Garrett GT12 (60-130hp rated 0.4-1litre engines), Saab 9000 aluminium air/air intercooler for front mount, Apexi S-AFC 2 for first stage fuelling, Malpassi RRFPR, relief/regulator/check valves for wastegate actuator adjustment, A/F mixture meter, and some other minor things to go on. Starting with no boost and raise it as it is tuned, injector change and fuel pump upgrade will be required as i raise boost.

Regards,
David.

Best place for advice

Unfortunately there isn't many Mira owners who regularly use the site. Best place to ask would be at http://bbs.daihard.org and most their users are in Australia so you might make a few new friends too!!!

Sorry couldn't have been much help here.

hi thanks, yeah i saw the daihard.org but liked this forum looked better Biggrin

long story short, a bolt holding gearbox was shielded by the rear engine mount, so that had to come off. no way to get to those high torque bolts with anything but small spanner, so I hoisted it up and out.

I can pick up my gearbox with 1 arm, and I'm sure I could lift the engine with both arms, tiny 659cc 3cylinder.

i'll see what daihard has to say.
