Clocks and Gauges

Depending on your Sportrak you may already have all the clocks and gauges on your Dash. You will either have and analogue clock, clinometer, and Voltmeter on the dash inbetween the drivers side and passenger side. Or if you have a lower model Sportrak you may just have a digital clock in the far left hole and the other 2 gaps will be filled in. But never fear as the wiring all there behind the covers so you can easily fit them once you track some down.

There are a couple of options of getting a clinometer and voltmeter, and even an analogue clock if you want to replace the Digital one. Firstly you could try some Daihatsu Dealers. However this could be expensive and they may no longer stock any. The second place is from the breakers yard. However this could take a while as Scrapped Sportraks don't seem all that common. But once fitted which is easy enough as you connect the wire at the back and simply push them in until they click, and then put the front cover back on.

The analogue clock is fairly easy to work. All you do to set the time is pull the knob at the bottom of the clock and turn it whilst keeping the knob pulled out.

The Clinometer shows the inclination angle of the vehicle body, and the acceleration or deceleration being applied. When the vehicle is stationary on a flat and level surface then the clinometer should be level. When accelerating, the clinometer line will raise, decelerating the line will lower. If turning right or the car leans to the right when the line will tip into the left zone at the top and the right zone at the bottom. If turning left or the car tips left then the line will tip into the right zone at the top and the left zone at the bottom. The bottom zone shows the way you are and the top, the way you should turn. This is useful when on steep gradients off road as you can use it to decide how much accelertion and steer to apply.

The Voltmeter shows the battery voltage when the ignition is on. The meter should read between 10 Volts and 16 Volts. If your meter reads below the 10 Volt mark then your charging system could be faulty and you should have it checked.
