Jacking up The Sportrak

Jacking up the Sportrak isn't like jacking up any other car. First you have to locate the jack. This is in four seperate pieces. The first piece is the long rod under the bonnet, this is just a long rod with a hook at the end. The second and third pieces are under the passenger seat. The second piece is the main jack itself, and the third is in the bag of tools you get, it is the wheel wrench. The fourth piece is also in the little bag of tools, it is a piece of metal which curves up at both sides. To piece it together the hook on the rod goes into the hole in the main jack. The other side of the rod, the flat piece, slots into the gap in the middle of the wheel wrench. The fourth piece just sits on top of the main jack. By turning the wheel wrench clockwise you raise the jack, anti clockwise, you lower the jack.

Before jacking up your Sportrak always make sure that you have the handbrake on and the car is in reverse gear. Remove the spare wheel from the back door by removing the two nuts and one bolt that hold the wheel on and place it near the tyre with the puncture. Slightly loosen the wheel nuts and place the jack at one of the jacking points near to the flat tyre. The front jacking points are near the transmission member and the rear jacking points are on each side of the axle mounting (see diagram below). Place the little piece of metal on top of the jack and line it up with the jacking point on the car. Turn the jack handle (wheel wrench) clockwise until the tyre is raised off the floor about one inch from the ground. Remove the wheel nuts and then remove the wheel. Place the new wheel on the car and screw on the wheel nuts until the wheel isn't loose, do not tighten at this stage. Turn the jack handle anticlockwise to lower the car and remove the jack from underneath it. Tighten up the wheel nuts in a diagonal sequence. Place the other wheel on the back door of the car and replace the two nuts and one bolt.
