We have a Daihatsu Fourtrak TDI SE 1996. We bought it second hand 4 months ago and last weekend my partner had her handbag stolen with the only key to the car in it. We have tried hight and low all week to get the car back on the road but have been told that the whole ignition/immobiliser system will need replacing as the current one is not the original for the car. The cost of this has been quoted as £850 - £1000!! We are getting married in 4 weeks time and she was out shopping for wedding accessories at the time. We managed to get a key cut that will turn over the engine, but unfortunately we cannot de-activate the immobiliser!! Hence the need (we have been told by Daihatsu) to replace the whole system. Has this happened to anyone else before and was there a cheaper solution?
