Hijet Brakes

Forum:

I had some brake pipes changed during the MOT on my 1999 1ltr Hijet
since then the brakes have been poor to say the least.
The mechanic who fitted the pipes needed to replace a pipe manifold where the front and rear brakes split.
Since then I have been working on the system and i discovered that the front calipers had seized into the back plates.
I tried pressing the brake pedal the starting the engine. That did not produce the 'kick back' I expected. In fact the pedal went down.
I bled the system again with an 'easibleed' . There was no air and I got through just under a Litre of fluid.
I will check the back brake drums for excessive shoe wear, but has anyone got any other possibilities?
There has been no fluid loss during normal operation and the vacuum system is working.

Brakes on a Hijet

Scratch one-s headScratch one-s head In my attempts to fix my brake problem, I descovered that daihatsu have changed the master cylinder design and discontinued the originally fitted equipment.
The original equipment was made by Bendix and the new stuff is made by Bosch but the bosch stuff is supplied under the original part number.
I ordered a seal kit for the cylinder and when it came, the seal pack and the end bearing would not fit the valve body fitted to my van.
So Van owners if you have brake problems check the MAKE of the bits before you order anything
